I'm a left handed mouse user so the default keys are no good to me. Typically, I like to rebind all my keys to the right hand side of the keyboard and use the Spacebar for the 'Use' action rather than 'E' but when I do this, VATS no longer works properly. The 'Use' option within VATS is disabled and just cancels VATS entirely without a shot fired. This is right at the beginning of the game, using a pistol and ample Action Points. I tested using the 'E' key so I know how it should work.

Is there any way I can have the Spacebar be rebound to 'Use' and still have VATS functioning the way it should? Please help. I really enjoyed playing Fallout 3 and VATS is too much fun to live without.

Thank you.

I can't recall if space is special in this game or not, but I had unrelated rebinding issues - NV didn't detect my mouse properly so couldn't rebind keys to that (I generally put "use" on one of the ancillary mouse buttons).

I just used Autohotkey - it works fine in NV, and is pretty easy to set up and use - rebinding E to space should be a simple one-line deal. Get it here: https://autohotkey.com/
Nice. At least I have a fix for the problem. ...and thanks for the response. I'll use that if I have to.

All the same, I find it odd that such a problem exists. Is there a config file - or equivalent within the game - that can be edited without the use of 3rd party software? That would be ideal.

Yeah there's a FalloutPrefs.ini in your FalloutNV folder in your user dir - on Windows it'd be in Documents\My Games\FalloutNV (or thereabouts).

In theory you could edit the keys directly in that, but I'm pretty sure it just gets set from the prefs in-game, so it seems likely that if you couldn't fix it using the in-game prefs, then it probably won't help.
