Choosing a name for your character is a pretty difficult decsion. It needs to be appropriate considering the game.

In the first game, a common name would do seeing as how you live in a vault. A few of the other residents are named Theresa, Cindi, and Lyle.

In the second game, since you're a tribal, you'd need to pick a tribal name too. Same with Tactics.

In the third game, when your father says, "Your mother and I have been talking. What do you think about...?" I think they would be referring to a first name only. A common name would do, although special.

In New Vegas, a lot of character have a first name and a surname. I would think that it would be most appropriate if you did the same.

When I pick names, I try to have a variety of names that start with different letters, trying to use one name for each letter of the alphabet. When I have twenty-six names, I start the process over. In NV, I try to do the same with surnames, though I don't use the same letter on the surname as I did the first name.
Mad Max FTW.

A lot times I go with Orion for male and Ariel for female. Probably from all the fun I've had with Master of Orion II.

I think Ariel was from a D&D Forgotten Realms book series. Something to do with a god wars series and her being an avatar for one of the goddess.
