I've been thinking if by chance the GOG site is shutdown then any game that we the members have in our libraries we would lose, right? Okay then wouldn't it be a good idea to burn the game files to FO 1..2..etc...to a disc? What one would all of you recommend? Any general information you think I might need would be greatly appreciated!
Games here are DRM-free, there's no form of activation or anything.
Simply download the game using the downloader or Galaxy and move the files to an external drive.
That way you have the installers always available should GOG.com parish.
Not to mention GOG would most probably announce the closure so people would have time to do back ups.
prepare brothers and sister for the zombie apocalyso is coming dl your backups while you still can
:P
I backed up my GoG games some time ago, it was a waste of time and data space. Considering how cheap the games and how low the chance that they become unavailable downloading the games just for playing is the rational decision.
I was just basically thinking out loud. I just hate to lose something I've paid for. I guess you could call me a cheap old S.O.B. ;)
Nah, I think most of us here appreciate the chance to safely backup the whole library out of whim and then play it without any internet connection. :)
I guess that's true. Most of these games are next to impossible to find anymore.
I do what I can to keep most of my games DLed onto a HD. There are a handful that are too big that I don't have dled yet, but, I have 98% of them at least.
I back up games as I dowload them to play them.

That said, I have some list of games I bought here on GOG but never (re-)played (yet), some retain that status for years now.... and yes, it not exactly simple question should I take action to actively download and make backups of those (especially realizing some I might indeed never actually play ever, despite having and wanting them in my collection for one reason or another).
