Yes, definitely buy it.
And install the Fallout Restoration Project for it, this includes tons of bugfixes, adds quests that were cut out by the devs to meet the deadline for release (such as a quest to save Sulik's sister, which actually results in seeing previously unused spoken dialogue with Sulik's talking head), adds a talking head for a recruitable NPC (with no dialogue granted, but I guess down the road maybe there will be a way to add a voice for it), and comes with a bunch of other patches as well such as the High Resolution Patch. This makes the game even better and just adds to the content.
Overall, Fallout 2 is the far larger game, a much funner game (this doesn't have a restricting time limit like the first), a better interface with improvements such as combat options for companions, seeing your maximum carrying weight in your inventory menu, being able to "push" NPCs out of the way if they're crowding a tight area (in vanilla Fallout 1 you couldn't do this, unofficial patches took care of this issue thankfully), and the ability to take everything when looting a body or container with a simple button, you can double click on a location to run instead of having to use the "always run" movement option or holding down the shift key (nice when you like to alternate between running and sneaking), better overall graphics and better cutscenes and talking heads, companions that are interesting, talking heads for characters that actually deserve a talking head (a lot of talking heads were wasted on characters in Fallout 1 that really didn't matter much or you hardly even talked to, in Fallout 2 three of your recruitable companions, or 4 with the restoration project, have talking heads, and dialogue is far more expansive), some nice music, different ways to gain/lose karma, more interesting perks, much better weapon variety, cool random encounters, making more of the skills matter in the grand scheme instead of having little to no use for them, and just being the superior game.
The one thing that Fallout 1 is on par with compared to Fallout 2 is the voice acting, both games have supperb voice acting Fallout 1 had some excellent voice actors like Jim Cummings, Keith David, and others while Fallout 2 has guys like Jason Marsden, Kevin Michael Richardson, Michael Dorn, and Malcom Mcdowell. I do think Fallout 2 has far more voice acting in it though, but the quality is just as good either way.
Fallout 1 was a great game no doubt I just finally beat it this week, but Fallout 2 is the better game, it beefed up everything from Fallout 1, made a great continuation of the story from the first, and has some great humor and random chatter.
As for the gun style of playing in Fallout 2, I was annoyed that the first gun you got, was pretty much the worse gun in the game. And it didn't make things better than I was majoring in small guns, so my Melee/Unarmed was terrible. A 48% chance to hit a gecko. Sheesh. But, once you get the 10MM pistol, it's like that long wait in the airplane until you FINALLY lift off. It's kind of the 'Finally, getting into the bug guns now!'. Sadly, some of the better guns such at the 44. magnum are pretty expensive, so getting better guns is either luck, skill, or just a high barter. If its that hard to get a good gun for you you're doing it wrong. You can get either a hunting rifle or a shotgun in The Den. Also don't forget to try aimed shots as those can cause some serious damage if you connect to the head or the eyes.
That or you need to get Sulik and Vic and have them do the fighting for you. Be resourceful, get creative, the game isn't holding your hand like Call of Duty. :P

bevinator: Yeah the fact that you don't get a real gun until the very end of Klamath always bugged me. You can even miss it if you aren't paying close attention. Especially considering that there's a handgun in the Elder's hut in the intro! Apparently your quest wasn't quite important enough for her to hand it over.
UndeadNecro: *SPOILERSTART*Sources from wiki, I remember reading that the elder used the gun in the temple, which it broke near the end(?). So, if she really wanted to be a dick, she'd have given you the gun.*SPOILEREND* (Was this even a spoiler? Maybe for lore...?) UndeadNecro: if you can get past all of the bugs (COUGHOne of mine which has gone un-answered so far...COUGH) and don't crash every four hours, then it's pretty good. Personally, I'm not liking it so far. The bugs that keep corrupting my saves are just too much for me to endure, but I don't want to disencourage you. It's a great game. I wouldn't be a very good person to listen to though, I've got up to like, what, New Reno with still a leather jacket and pistol? Apparently that's bad, but after the Den there's no where else to go.
But, the best part so far is the several ways to play it in each 24+ hour games.
EDIT:Alas, I was too late and didn't see your latest post. Welp, hope you don't hate the game as much as I do.
Were you using unofficial patches or the Restoration Project to fix the bugs? I've hardly, if ever encountered any bugs in Fallout 2 with those installed, saving in combat is pretty much the only buggy part of the game now. But, the best part so far is the several ways to play it in each 24+ hour games.
