I just finished Fallout 1 and had a great time with it, but also some annoying problems like the game crashing after some time of playing, and other than that, most things went well . Now with Fallout 2 I get the same crashes after a couple hours like the first, and after messing with ddraw.ini Sfall graphics mode settings I got a message that I messed with the settings in the game, and to revert back to the old settings which I tried and still got the message that it was overwritten so I just decided to start over (I wasn't that far yet anyway) and reinstall everything. Now that I have done this and restarted from the beginning I now have no music which makes the game so much less enjoyable. I'm looking for a solution for both the crashes and the music problems. I'm only fifteen so I just got into this GOG PC gaming sort of thing so I know very little of computers and all of the problems one might have just trying to play a damn game on one.

What OS are you using?
Are you using any mods?

I doubt I can help, honestly, but knowing the environment in which it's running might help somebody answer your query.
I'd recommend installing the unoffical patch from Killap from the NMA forums: http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/dload.php?action=file&file_id=704&sid=13cf78ef41d26bfebb472eae0953d997

It may help you with your crashing problems. If the patch doesn't fix your music, there's one thing you should check. Try searching for "fallout2.cfg". Open it with notepad or any other text editor and check under the [sound] section. Make sure there is something like this:

music=1
music_path1=c:\(install directory)\fallout2\data\sound\music\

If this isn't present, make a backup of your fallout2.cfg file before editing it in. Let me know how it works out.

I have things working sound-wise although the crashing thing I'm not sure of, I have everything patched and I'm playing it with the the restoration project installed even though it's my first play-through. The crashes have something about memory included in the error message and random letters and numbers as well. I didn't have to mess with the CFG file either I just reinstalled it without getting anything but the Restoration Project which included Killap's patch and Sfall instead of installing them a second time like usual. So now I just need to find a good solution to the crashing after a couple hours which is just really bugging me.

Vista is the OS

I use Windows XP and I've had a few crashes running the Restoration Patch. Some of them were occurred randomly with what you described and some seemed to be triggered by certain events, sometimes involving new areas. Despite this, I still enjoyed the RP, but I never found a way around the crashes myself either, I just saved often. Fortunately, one of the recent changes with the RP is allowing you to have as many save files as you want.

What does it say when it crashes for you?
It's been a while, but I'm pretty sure it was similar to what you said. Something about memory with the memory address (random numbers).
