WHY GOG!?
yeah i got fallout for free via gog too. only paid for f2 :)
plus here you can download anytime from anywhere. i would pay 6$ more for any game for that...
I'm more than happy to pay 6 bucks for a DRM-free and guaranteed working copy of Fallout that I can download whenever I want and do it all oh so easily than be tied to my Gametap account to play it. I have Gametap and I think its great. Not as great as it used to be, but you have to be online to use it obviously and you don't really own the games. GoG is a place where you actually can buy it and OWN it and enjoy it whenever.
Gametap = only for North America :(
I've already bought fallout, and got fallout 2 for free,
the only thing you don't get with gametap is GoG.com's support. We've got fixes for Fallouts issues.

Bingo.
This is why GoG is such a good thing to have, even though Gametap can be accessed anywhere (I have it on my PC here in the UK) there are a bunch of games which are unavailable to those of us not living within the borders of the US.
Steam has that exact same problem where certain games (Hitman collection by Eidos for example) aren't available for download to the rest of the world.
Which of course is fairly annoying.
I believe the free games on GameTap are only temporarily free. I may be wrong. I've only meddled with free gametap games for an hour before giving up.

yeah, they are usually only temporary, although, temporarily meaning perhaps half a year or more.
We also get wallpaper, concept art, and soundtracks, and the Gametap version has bugs that GOG has fixed, like the screen randomly blanking. Also, for me at least, Gametap just doesn't work, I get internal errors when I try to launch a game no matter what I try (and they have Deus Ex for free *cries*).
I tried to use Gametap a while back because they had Deus Ex and it seemed to be the only way I could get access to that game. I downloaded the GameTap service, complete with it's overly cumbersome interface and attempted to play Deus Ex.
I must say, Gametap is seriously the worst thing ever. After a couple of unsuccessful attempts to get things working I deleted it and I will never use it again. I've found Deus Ex GOTY Edition for digital purchase via www.eidiosinteractive.come and at a $19.99 price tag I was happy to pay it if it meant no Gametap.
GOG's prices are less than half what I payed for Deus Ex and to me, not having to deal with GameTap is worth every penny.
More Power to GOG.com, I only wish I had more than one beta invite, I've been spreading the word to all my friends

They used to rotate them out regularly, but a Gametap employee tells me that the list will be more or less permanent now, with the occasional addition.
I've been seeing "Fallout for free on Gametap" on other forums too. Why is this such big news? I mean, yeah, Fallout is a great game, but they've also been offering other games like Deus Ex and Psychonauts as free-to-play for about a year now, I believe. And, as mentioned, you're not actually getting the game--you still need to download Gametap and launch it every time you want to play. The games are unmoddable, too, due to the encryption that Gametap uses.
I still like Gametap and have a subscription, but it's just a different kind of service than what Steam or GOG is offering.
i just hope some of the money i paid got to interplay. right?... ?... not bethesda??

Don't laugh, but I think it's worth buying it here at GOG just to support their effort to create a service that gives so much value to customers. I can spare the six bucks. And I want a service like GOG to be around for a long, long time.

Agreed.
