Does anyone know why the MODS option is not showing up in settings?

I've changed the .ini files as detailed online about setting up mods but still nothing. I've tried running the game from the launcher and the FO4 Script Extender launcher but nothing. Can anyone point me in the right direction to get this option to show up? Thanks.

This is (as far as I know) normal. The menu item "Mods" is part of the "Creation Club feature" (which is removed with this version). With the Skyrim Special Edition it is the same.

For modifications, use a mod manager to manage them or do it manually (this works without problems). To sort mods manually and to activate or deactivate the "plugins.txt" is responsible (as in Skyrim). The file is under %appdata%/local/Fallout4/plugins.txt

Ah, thanks, I've spent way too much time this afternoon trying to sort this out. I always manually install mods and have noticed that I have a file entitled DLCList.txt (no plugins.txt though) which does list the couple of mods I've installed.

So am I right in assuming that the mods are loading okay if they are listed in this file?
I am glad that the information could help you.

The file DLCList.txt is something that the launcher creates - but does not activate or manage the mods for the game. Why you have no "plugins.txt" I do not know ... but without this file mods don't work (except when mod managers intervene - I don't know because I manage mods manually). How it worked for you before without this file I can not understand.

Example for the plugins.txt:

# This file is used by the game to keep track of your downloaded content.
# Please do not modify this file.
*Unofficial Fallout 4 Patch.esp
*HUDFramework.esm
*XDI.esm
...
*Eigengrau_Mein_Tresor_01.esp
...

The ESM files always come first, then the ESP files (the unofficial patch is an ESP but marked as ESM).
The "asterisk" in front of the entries is to activate them (if you leave out the asterisk or remove the entry the mod will not be loaded).

On the quick I have this link at hand where it is described a bit more (below is the English description): https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/63257

And don't forget: Steam+GOG use the same location for the saves and .ini files and the plugins.txt (if you have both versions installed).

Thank you for the link, I have already added these lines to the relevant .ini files. I will try and add a plugins.txt into the folder with the info copied from the information you gave (modified with my mods off course). Unfortunately I don't have time to do it tonight but will try tomorrow. Thank you for your help so far :)
Glad if I could help a little.

Then I wish you good luck with it and hope it works for you tomorrow. If not then you can say it here.

After an hour or so of trying to get it sorted this afternoon I've discovered that I can use mods that don't need to access the MOD menu. For example Extended Dialogue Interface mod appears to work okay but Game Configuration Menu mod doesn't as I can't access the options for it. Unfortunately there are a couple of mods I'd like that need to access the MOD menu.

Once again, thanks for your help.

EDIT: I've just found a mod called Mod Configuration Menu that adds an option in settings (in game) to access the mods that require the MOD setting and it works perfectly. Really pleased about this :)

I am happy for you. Then have fun with Fallout 4. There are so many modifications out there that are great.

Good luck to you.

Pssst! I'll give you a little tip...of you had the steam version and uninstalled the steam version because you are now using this version...go into the steam folder for fallout 4 and all the mods you installed using the mods menue page are still there..copy the folders , and fose files directly to your GOG version folder. Delete the fose steam .dll file and start the gog version with the fose launcher exe file . You will have your mods and be able to continue with the saved games you made under the steam version like nothing happened. Don't tell anyone..but tell everyone heh heh heeee! Screw Steam.

NOTE: This only works if you didn't choose the option to remove saved games and config files when you uninstalled the stean version.

What mod managers are recommended for Fallout 4 here?

Have never used Steam so this is not an option. Thanks for the tip though as hopefully it might help others who do.

Mod Organiser 2 or Vortex seem to be the two recommended.

I thought about doing this but haven't uninstalled Steam yet. Yes, I installed my Gog to see if it is working fine but haven't changed the links in Vortex to get it going yet with modding...I found that it placed the saves from the Gog playthru into the current profile I had enabled at the time...so I wondered if this would work so I wouldn't have to install all those mods again...into the Gog version and wondered if it would work if I removed the steam.exe if I copied it all over and it would work...So Thanks for that much but did you also change the links in the mod managing game part of vortex to the Gog fallout F4SE and fallout.exe?
I'm getting myself so confused, I'd love to just switch it all over and be done with Steam but not wanting to screw it all up either. So would this work if I haven't removed Steam yet and change the links for the management to the Gog F4Se.exe and all links for the steam in there? Yes?
