everytime i want to move, fight, and move again i really need to cycle through the modes? I'm at the start of the game and i feel like this is a needless hassle. i wish i could just press key Whatever1 for attack cursor, and key Whatever2 for move cursor so I can quickly move along.

also, pretty annoying that when i kill the nearby enemy the combat doesn't auto-end.

Explain, please, what 'cycling' do you mean? Never saw such a thing in the classic Fallouts. There also are hotkeys described in the game's manual.

Yes, can be annoying. Right-click changes mouse mode between move and look/interact. Click weapon from inventory slot for attack cursor, or right click weapon for additionals.
