Hi guys, I have a problem with a noise.
This noise makes itself known when I start up Fallout Tactics.
Suddenly my gpu (I believe) starts making this squealing noise, its really annoying and makes me wonder if I am harming my computer in some way.
I don't have this problem with any other game that I know of.
The squealing is constant and is at its most noisiest when in the main menu.

My gfx card:gforce 285 gtx

Anyone have any idea what may be causing this and how it might be fixed?
Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you.

I believe it's your power supply that does it. Do you have a modular power supply? Listen to your power supply, not your GPU for the source of the noise to be sure. It can happen at really high frames per second from my understanding.

My power supply has done this too, so that's why I tell you this. I don't recall it doing it for Fallout Tactics, but it has for a couple of casual games I have(I have like 600 I got from a friend that works for a game company, this one game squealed so bad).

To try to fix it, try turning on Vsync. I haven't played Fallout Tactics in a loooong time, so I don't recall if the game has it in it's options, but if it does, try turning it on. Try turning it on in your graphic card settings too, always on or forcing it on all the time, so you can cap the frame rate in the game to a low number(like 60).

If that doesn't work, good luck in trying to fix it. I know how annoying it can be when it happens(though it rarely happens for me too).

Yes! The reason behind it was exactly what you suggested.
I checked my FPS while playing and it was extremely high, with the fps at 60 the noise completely disappeared.

Thank you.
Great news! It's better to hear the squealing cries of your dying enemies than the squealing cries of the computer ;).

You don't have to worry if anything was damaged, it's a normal thing to happen. It's just something that's annoying.
