Is there any point trying to finish the level without any ghouls getting killed? Any bonus for all of them staying alive at all?

Because there is always at least one that runs out into melee range and dies.
From what I remember it's pretty much impossible to save them all, they put themselves in danger too much and can't take that much damage. You can't concentrate your squad in one area heavily enough to provide enough cover for them. Just make sure you don't let more than 5 die.
What I always did during that level was send the worst gunner up north, send the two best to the south, and then keep the rest on the west side. That way you have your team distributed so that they are where they need to be relative to the strength of the assault that side will face. The other thing I remember about that level was that if you play the opening siege in real time mode, God help you. . .

Actually that's a good point, when I said it was pretty much impossible to keep all of the ghouls alive, I was playing in real time. Might be easier in turn based.
It is much easier in the squad turn based mode. I usually play the game solo if I can. If you find the right spot by the fence alongside the road, the wolves, deathclaws and humans, will stay inside the fenced area. Kill them all with a sniper rifle. The positioning is critical but a few run throughs and you will find the right spot.
