I think the sqaud strategy was new and interesting for the fallout series. However the vehicles and weapons were a break in the lore.

I think the vehicles are fine since BoS uses vehicles already, and you can even get a car in Fallout 2. Somebody's had to have figured out how to get vehicles working in the Fallout universe by now.

Either way, Tactics isn't canon.
