Not sure if it's been discussed before, but I recently got an Asus Transformer. I'm going to be buying the physical keyboard extension tomorrow, in effect making my android device much like a netbook.

I've seen a forum post on No mutants allowed where a guy ran fallout 2 on his android; I was just wondering if you guys had any experience with this?

I want to take the gog files I have and run them through adosbox(Android doxbox emulator). Think it would work well?
There was a post of someone that was trying to run Fallout into a Tablet (I even asked for him post a video if he was sucesses) but the post pretty much died after he said that, so, yeah, i have no idea how it gonna work.
Fallout is one of the last DOS games as such it requires alot of CPU power to emulate.

Also the DOS ver of Fallout doesn't have any of the many unofficial patches that have been released for the game.

Play the Windows ver on a PC. Play other games on your android device.
@DosFreak

Really??
I am 100% sure that latest TeamX unofficial patches, and NPC mod work well.
I've even drilled a hole in NMA's guy a.k.a. Skynet so he'd update his children's patch for Fo1 to have DOS support.(Falloutw.exe from his patch is the same as used in TeamX's 1,2 update patch). So practicly it adds support for TeamX stuff.

So to clarify: children;TeamX 1,2;TeamX 1,3,x; NPCmod 3,x,x *DO* work in DOS version

Tested it on Dosbox myself

I could say it should be considered "basic mod set for FO1" and it all works in DOS

as for Restoration & FIXT mods I'm not sure but probably they don't have DOS support.

Also I'd like Fallout on handheld devices very much.
The way I see it: no direct ports of Both FO1& FO2 so the best bet is emulation.
Since FO2 needs also windows installed on the emulator, I reckon the first one Playable on handhelds Is going to be FO1 via dosbox.
And actually the time (I think) for it is now current top notch mobiles have dual core 1,2GHz/1,5GHz CPU and 1 gig of ram plus graphic's accelerators. Emulation Should be no problem. Only technical problem to fix is the data transfer between MicroSD/MicroSDHC cards and the device itself, because this is a bottleneck. the only way to reduce this problem is to buy a class 6 microSD. Most crap on the market today has class 2 or class 4 speed ratings.
handhelds suffer from the same problem as PC few years back HDD read/write is slowing them down, as if one would travel a ferrari through a molten tar.

Hopefully sooner than later one would be able to play F1 and F2 on android, my dreams will then come true :)
I guess its possible only via unofficial modding, if someone finds a way, please share
I'm quite sure it's possible already Fo1 does'nt need windows emulation and is stable under dosbox (eg. doesn't need slow quemu or bochs).
I read about some guys that were trying to run it on a nexus one wich is 1.0 GHz (single core)
and 512MB RAM not to mention they were probably using crappy sd card for installing it from such recycle bin's as tesco anyway. They claim that Fo1 did launch but was terribly slow.

Fo1 should have no prob running in dosbox on samsung's galaxy note or galasy S2
wich are over twice as powerfull.

In addition I've found that my brother owes a galaxy S2 model. So as soon as he'll be back for christmas, I will try to *convince* Him to let me put my claws on this marvel and see if I'm correct. I'm going to puke up some caps and purchase a
Panasonic microsdhc class 6 (20MB guaranteed read speed) 16 GB card, just for the purpose of testing Fo1 on that phone.
If He let's me mess around with his phone a bit, I'm going to install latest aDosbox 0.2.5 and copy over My Dos Fo1 install from pc, and see how it runs. I'm going to make a video of the whole action, and if the results are giong to be worthwhile [assuming I'll get a chance to even touch that phone that is] I'll try to upload the vid somewhere.

Wish me luck with convinceing my bro I guess
According to Wikipedia, the original Fallout is on OnLive. iOS got the ability to play games on OnLive recently, not sure if Android does.

Awww yeah, Fallout 1, 2 & Tactics are on OnLive, and there is an Android app for it.

Going to try this out now.

This is the best argument I've ever heard for OnLive.

Visceral, disgusting, yet somehow quite charming. I'm tempted to cough up that phrase in the future.

I'm probably not the best person to be testing this considering I'm using Android via a somewhat buggy HP Touchpad CM7 mod, but here's what I have to report:

- Low, blurry resolution in the entire app. This could be due to connection speed or problems detecting the unique hardware.
- Fallout actually works...
- There seems to be an issue with touch controls through the entire app. In menus, taps are messed up as you have to tap above what you want. This could be due to the resolution and/or the unique hardware bugs.
- Once I'm in the game, I can move the cursor, but it's erratic and only slides along the edges of the screen. Now, this could be either because of the out of sync tapping, or because the game isn't optimized for touch control.

got some bad news today:
The panasonic card I mentioned earlier was a sd card not a microsd so I purchased next best thing Patriot class 10 rated by sustained write speed (10MB/s) so at least in theory it's read speed should be grater than 10MB/s

Additionally I've installed the dosbox on the phone and set 128 MB of RAM for the dosbox to use and cpu cycles to auto.
Fallout runs quite slow especially when fade-ins and fade-outs occour graphic animation also leaves room for more to wish for however mouse animathin is quite good no clipping or such.
it's the first time I actually liked to use a touchscreen. also letter input from the virtual keyboad seemes instant and in game pointer is more or less instantly reporting any given clicks on the buttons. funny almost if I pressed them on the pipboy myself :D
intro movies were suttering a little so i skipped them over.
:to conclude:
Emulation CPU power from the galaxyS2 is enaugh given mouse behaviour and buttons clicking however current dosbox lacks support from hardware GPU on the phone and so the graphic is kind of slow. maybe if I'd try to fiddle with dosbox's settings would help improove things in terms of playability.

now I'll charge up AA accus for the cam to make a vid.
EDIT:
As promised I've made a video and uploaded itto You tube. Just copy to clipboard and paste in the adress bar if You want to see it.

Hi all

I put together a thread detailing the various methods for playing Fallout 1 & 2 on Android.

Thread revival :D

So Recently I've purchased a android tablet of my own (a crappy low end no name A13 -cortexA8 @1GHz single core 512MB ram and a mali 400 GPU)
I've installed a special version of dosbox on it. It os optimized by my friend for fallout running.. He claims it is even more efficient than Dosbox Turbo (at least w/o sound) so I've set it up, optimized the dosbox conf to throw out some unnesecary stuff like serialports joystick etc. from emulation set machine to svga_s3 and ram to 64MB
and it run..
I've also made a very important notice...
the main reason why game lags is because it renders graphic from the game on the cpu, and to make things worse android also defaultly renders 2D graphics on the cpu, GPU is used only for 3D graphics.
To fix this and to gain significant improovment (at least on my crappy no name tablet) i looked up developer options in android settings and ticked on force rendering on GPU option on.
The results amazed me myself... The optimized "Falldroid" dosbox with the sound emulation off runs smoother than my previous attempt with aDosBox sound enabled on SGS2 wich vid You can see above...
How is it possible to get better results on device wich has 0.5x of the calculating power of the device ran it worse.

Btw Roland... or should I say Tim....
Remember me??
If You need additional info on the Falldroid Dosbox or another project also nicknamed Falldroid wich is a second project of the same developer, or simply You want to take a shot of Falldroid Dosbox Yourself drop me a private line on the NMA forums and I'll see to point You through to My buddy.
