I still cannot play Old World Blues DLC after fixing many other problems with this game by adding mods or making changes.
First, the projector would crash to desktop. This was solved by either installing some mods or at least setting FalloutNV.exe to run in compatibility mode for Windows 7.
Then, at the end of the 'cutscene' introductory movie/slideshow, the game would freeze. This was 'solved' by a workaround to avoid the cutscene. By installing a mod that would completely remove the cutscene that skips to directly transport the player to the spot where the game normally sends you. (mod is called "skip owb cutscene" and is here: https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/50177 )
Third, now that the cutscene is skipped, my player is transported to the region and after clicking 'OK the game freezes. The exact sequence is: after I am transported from the Drive-In at the satellite,
1) The screen is opaque and there's a message about "You feel strangely heavier...[...]" in the center, then 2) I click 'OK' to continue and see it start to clear, and after that I 3) see the hud appear and the message "Patient Gown" added in the upper left of the screen and "Big MT" down in the lower left, along with a 10XP message in the lower right corner... and the game is frozen. The sound occurs for when that XP was added, and I still hear some ambient environmental sounds.
(Different outcome without any mods: I disable all mods or all anti-crash mods, then instead of freezing the game crashes to the desktop.)
Again, the problem: after clicking the dialogue box upon entering Big MT, the game freezes about the same time the gown is added to my inventory.
Here's what I've tried:
I can relocate to the sink and roam around inside using [coc NVDLC03TheSink], but this is far from ideal for many reasons. Just to see, though, I can load this map and walk around and it works. As soon as I exit this small area through the door, the same freezing happens as described above. If I use coc to go to the balcony, it's also the same outcome as if I just take the door or was transported from the Satellite at the drive-in. The difference with using coc to the balcony is that the map partially loads and I can see parts of the surrounding area.
I have also tried advancing the quest stage but it doesn't seem to work. I think this is actually happening around the same time the quest is initiated.
Several other mods were tried as a way of fixing this, including YUP, NVAC, and NV Tick Fix mods. Are there any other mods that might help?
I'm curious if anyone who can play Old World Blues runs a mod that's not one of those three.
I've already looked through https://wiki.nexusmods.com/index.php/Fallout_NV_Mod_Conflict_Troubleshooting
There is someone reporting a similar problem related to mods here:
https://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/498954-old-world-blues-crash-at-start/
But the solution doesn't apply to me. This problem happens without any mod if I skip the intro video.
