EN: After a couple of months playing, I tried to start using a PS4 controller, and it does not work. The game doesn't start if the controller is plugged, and if I plug it after the game loads, it doesn't recognize it. Any suggestions?

You need to use DS4. Playstation controller support is a relatively new thing, and even some modern games don't have it.

Edit: I checked PCGaming wiki ([url=https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Fallout:_New_Vegas#Input]https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Fallout:_New_Vegas#Input[/url]) and it says X-input only. Which means no Dual Shock (PS4/5) support.

First party Xbox controllers will work out of the box (I think that includes 360 controllers, but I'm not in a position to test that).

Can't comment on Playstation 4 controllers or DS4, as the one I have now is giving me grief.

Try DS4windows. The latest version is for Win 10/11 but I haven't tried that.

I got it working on Windows 7 by downloading an earlier version (3.0.18) but a pre-requisite is the 'VigemBus Driver' and the install program leads to a dead link so I wasn't able to get it to work.

Later I tried a keymapper program called 'InputMapper' and saw that it installed the VigemBus Driver during it's setup. Inputmapper had issues so I tried DS4windows again and it works! Full controller support for the game and menus too! I does disable your mouse during game play but you don't really need it anymore.
