Before everyone posts a link to the similar topic of "Q:Black Screen in Fallout". That is a post for Fallout 2 which I have got working now but the same solution didn't work for Fallout 1.
I suspect it is an issue with Direct x as switching to basic allows video and sound but the mouse moves unpredictably and makes this unplayable. I recently bought commandos and used the solution of adding the extra "m" in the exe file (Seriously GOG that took me two seconds, why didn't you sell it in that state). So I thought I'd try the same trick with Fallout 2 and it worked when I used the "Fallout2" exe file not the "Fallout2HR" exe. Fallout 1 comes with a "Falloutw" and a "FalloutwHR" file and renaming them doesn't work.
Any help is greatly appreciated. I'm using windows 10 and have the latest Direct x installed. Not sure if Fallout had a different name for the exe file like "Fallout:GOTY" but I'm stuck and need someone with real knowledge of how these things work.
