Hey all,
I am trying to get Fallout working in a windowed mode. Many sites say this isn't possible but I did at one time have it working nicely with "D3DWindower". Unfortunately with this version of the game I downloaded here it gives me the following error in screen attached.
My question, is there a way to get this error resolved or is there another method?
Normally I would just use the High res patch but I am at work and need something to kill time with when its slow ;-)
::EDIT::
Running Windows XP

I'm looking for an answer to this as well. D3dwindower does nothing for me in Vista,.. the game just launches fullscreen.
An idea: Maybe GOG could implement windowed modes into these games when they XP'ify them since most of us are struggling with low res games on high res displays.. that would be the ultimate solution and add even more value to these games
would love that myself
There's this mod http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/dload.php?action=file&file_id=1068 which lets you run FO1/2 in a window but I'm having problems getting it to work.
"Horn"
That mod worked for me.
I modified all other sections in the .ini file to run the game as normal but changed the [graphics] section to "mode=5"
This works like a charm!
Going to play the game now and will report any bugs. :-)
Attached a screen for proof! :-)

Glad it worked for you at least!
Are you running XP or vista? I made a post on the thread about this mod on NMA and the maker has responded to me so hopefully I'll have a fix for it soon.

Here is how it looked edited.
I am using XP SP2.
"[Graphics]
;Set to 0 for 8 bit fullscreen
;Set to 1 for 8 bit windowed
;Set to 4 for dx9 fullscreen
;Set to 5 for dx9 windowed
;Mode 1 requires your desktop colour depth to be set to 32 bit
;Windowed modes incur a performance hit. (Modes 1 and 5 more so than mode 3)
;The 16 bit colour modes cause movies to display incorrect colours, and slows down fades
;dx9 modes cause some corruption of movies, but not as bad as 16 bit colour modes
;dx9 modes work with fallout 1, but results in movies being completely corrupted
Mode=5"
good and all, but does it work for Vista?

Weclock: good and all, but does it work for Vista?

I got it working under vista by renaming the exe. Not sure why it works, but it works for me.
Holy carp, I got it working too. You guys and girls rock!
I just got Fallout Tactics to run in a window with D3DWindower. At first it crashed at launch, but adding the switch "-3" to the command line did the trick. The switch forces FT to use DirectX 3.
EDIT:
On XP, that is.

Is there a easy way to move that window? I got it work, but it also loads a bunch of blackness that doesnt go away till I mouse over it.

I didn't get that problem when I used it as windowed but I did get the exact same problem. (about every 30 secs on average I'd guess, Fallout, not Fallout 2 BTW, I haven't installed FO2 yet so I can't say if it happens there or if the patch works with it)
For me this worked, I changed to mode 4 since I play it fullscreen, but you'd want to change it to 5, I am however uncertain if it's part of the "D3DWindower" since the commands are the same...
Might be worth a shot anyhow, made the blackness go away for me at least, hope it does for you too:

This program works for me with F1.

On XP, that is.

Here's an easier way. Add -w to the end of the target for the shortcut, no patches or outside programs required or anything.
