Wow. I really, really wish they had removed that, or at least made it possible to remove it. Even when I attempt to change the file icon to something else, it's still that guy's face. Was it supposed to be funny?

It's to show you how much he looks like fallout boy.

Here is a "fixed" Fallout Icon for anyone who wants it. Just rename it from fallout_icon.png to fallout_icon.ico .

Please, for the love of {deity of your choice}, take this out... Tim Cain is a game designing genius, but I hate (no, really, I _HATE_) having his ugly mug staring out of my desktop. Small icons aren't a solution.
Here's the part that annoys me more than anything -- there's a separate .ICO file that gets used by default, and then there's the icon embedded in the .EXE itself, and they're BOTH horked up. Don't change the one inside the EXE, but could you please change the one that is external so it doesn't have this problem?
I'm serious here. I've wasted half an hour this morning that I intended to use on testing and setting up the "Ultimate Fallout Configuration", because this annoys me so much. "Funny" would have been to use the extra resolution to fit a VaultBoy comic pose into the large icon. This is just plug-ugly...
And yes, I can fix it. I develop software for a living, so I could fire up my icon editor and patch it myself, but I don't really appreciate having to do that when all I wanted was to spend a little time with an old favorite.
Oh, and I didn't find it funny in Fallout 2, either...

If the original .exe was like this, then i believe it should remain as the original was. An optional downloadable icon could be added though without the face. But i prefer to keep the original as it was.
(and btw, the patched version -the patch that brings back the cencored content- also has the face, so its better to use an external optional icon)
Personally i don't mind the face, although i was wondering why there is a face instead of a more game-y icon :-P.
Thank heavens for this thread. I thought I had been infected with some virus/malware that changes my desktop icons to some guy's face. :-P
Oh you guys, I can't believe it seriously bugs you that much. I for one think it's hilarious and prefer it to the default icon.
Sooo Windows vista isn't letting me save the picture as an Icon. Would anyone technically literate like to tell me a solution?
Left click this link and it will open a new window with the icon in it. Right click on the picture and choose "Save image as". When the new dialog box pops up, change "Save as type" from PNG to All Files. Then choose where you want to save it and name the file anything you want, but end it with .ICO. That should do it.

vpbpi, for some reason when I open up your link to the fixed icon in a new window, it doesn't show up... I'm using Vista Home. Any idea why that may be...?

it shouldn't show up (well, it should, as a question mark, or a red X, or whatever else your browser may use for stuff-it-cannot-read) - it is in ico format, but your browser is trying to read it as if it were a png (because vpbpi renamed it before upsoading, as the forum only accepts a select few extensions). Just save it as an ico per the instructions, and everything will be allright.
Here you go guys. This is made from the original icon from the Falloutw.exe file for everyone that likes the original icons. No scary dude's face! ;-) I made it in quite a few different formats to cover every color setting and icon size I could, including Windows 95, XP, and Vista's large size icons too. Just rename it to the .ico file type and everything should be fine. :-) Hope you like it.

Gunrun: I'm on vista and I can make the icons small just I run a massive monitor and someone else who uses this PC suffers from partial blindness so I need to use large icons so this doesn't really work.

Hi, I was surprized myself. Since you have Vista (I'm on 7) you can change it to the Games For Windows icon whish is BIG and really nice, it's in the game folder, named GFW.ico or something like that. Enjoy!
