In the steam store it is clearly stated that Fallout 3 is not compatible with Windows 7. Can anyone please confirm if GOG's version is W7 compatible?

Thank you very much.
This question / problem has been solved by Venitaimage
It worked flawlessly on almost all of our Win7 machines.

Not only W7, i experienced a lot of crashes on W8 as well. Never tried on W10.

Is this the original release or has the GOG Compatability Team waved its magic wand?

And what about GfWL? Still part of the installation, still a requirement?

Required compatibility INI tweaks are automatically applied during installation:

ohnathanamz: Please a gog.com employee tell me that the multi core problems and crashes are fixed in the gog.com version of Fallout 3 before I purchase Fallout 3.

I can make it work in a .ini tweak, but I'd prefer to always have it work right after I finish installing it.

If gog.com you made it work right out of the box thank you very much.

bUseThreadedAI=1
iNumHWThreads=2

included in INI

As for GfWL,with the exception of button in main menu that now does nothing, it has been completely gutted out:

DrearierSpider: Hopefully the GFWL remnants left over in the Steam version have been completely gutted, too.

There's a button in the main menu that... does absolutely nothing. :P

I thank yee kindly ...
If anyone can tell me if it does work on Windows 10 ?
It should.

The issue was actually never with the post XP windows OS, but with multi core computers. Fallout 3 had issues with computers thathad more then two cores.
WHat happened was that multi core computers became the standard at the same time Windows 7 came out, and people blamed Windows 7 for the problem.
If you ran the game on a multicore with XP, no problem because XP cannot recognize more then 2 Cores,..one reason why Windows XP became obsolete.
I've never had issues running the Steam FO3 on my machine. Never had a single crash. Maybe I was just lucky?

i5-750
Win7 64-bit pro.
8GB ram.
Probably just lucky.
But ther was a widespread problem with Fallout 3 GOTY crashing on multicore computers .Luckily, there was a simple fix involving editing one line and adding another to the games. ini fiile, telling the game to ignore more then two cores, that fized the problem.

FO3 GOTY played fine on my quad core Win7 machine without issues as well, and without any changes to make it work.

Also to the original poster. This is what it actually says on Steam (copied right from there):

"Notice: Fallout 3 is not optimized for Windows 7 and later"

Not optimized is not the same as Not compatible.

Not optimized is not the same as Not compatible.
I know exactly the difference. Perhaps the translator did not (see screenshot).
