haven't come across any others experiencing this specific issue yet so i thought i would create a post for it.

the game will launch, i'll see the Bethesda graphics, then the main menu and everything works amazingly. then i hit new game and see the loading screen, and it freezes partially, then cuts to black, then i see the lamp intro scene part. i skip this, then it starts stuttering really, REALLY bad, and i see a black screen. if i wait a really long time the intro scene will come. i can hit Esc and see the Menu but it's so unbelievably choppy i need to ctrl+alt+del to escape from it. the game never crashes though

this is weird, because in the cases i've come across, the game either runs or doesn't run, starts or doesn't start, etc. mine seems to start, run, then not run for some reason.

some specs and versions:

OS: Windows 10 Home, latest
all drivers are up to date
Intel Core i7-7700HQ 2.80 GHz
16 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050

things i've tried:

- delete /Documents/My Games/Fallout3 directory and reinstall game thru GOG Galaxy (i have never installed this game thru Steam or anywhere else until today)
- rename /Data/Music to something else to rule out audio issues (audio works OK)
- all the .ini settings tweaks i've come across were already done in my installation - the multi-core thing, etc
- play with settings before launching the game (low, high, medium, doesn't seem to matter), play with resolution
- tick the "Load Loose Files" box in Options before launching game - doesn't stay ticked for some reason, might not be doing anything
- tried both windowed/full screen
- changed compatibility modes in Fallout3.exe and FalloutLauncher.exe and checked Run as admin box (can't post the forum link though). i tried Windows 7, then XP Pack 3.
- Intel GPU bypass (i have a card but worth a shot i guess)
- disabling some Windows services like .NET

any help would be greatly appreciated, would love to dive into this game again and i feel like i'm so close!

found the Updated Unofficial Fallout 3 Patch on Nexus mods, followed the directions there, which went something like

- fresh Fallout 3 install
- install ArchiveInvalidation Invalidated (though they don't say what to do with it, just to install it. lol)
- install FOSE into the Fallout 3 directory
- install Command Extender to the Fallout 3/Data directory
- use a mod manager (i used FOMM cause i already have it) to install the patch
- correct the load order
- check "Run as admin" for Fallout 3/fose_loader.exe
- launch via fose_loader.exe

i managed to get a slightly longer loading window this time, where a tip showed up on the left like usual, but then the same shit happened. can watch the intro but there is no sound (though there is sound up to that point), and if i hit Esc it becomes a hot mess (doesn't crash though).

i've been at this for like 5 hours but i am going to try watching the entire intro thru and see if i can make it further into the game.

I don't know if this will work for you (or anyone else for that matter) but Nexus Mod Manager has my mods listed as such:

- Fresh install;
- DLC (It wasn't active; 30 seconds in the 'Mods' section solved that problem)
- Fallout Anniversary Patcher (yes, it works on the GOG version too);
- FOSE (not the default NMM one as it is badly outdated);
- Command Extender;
- Fallout Stutter Remover;
- ArchiveInvalidation Invalidated (I let NMM handle it);
- Updated Unnoffical Fallout 3 Patch

The other mods I have installed are installed after these mods. NMM threw up exceptions for some of my mod choices;
mostly texture addition mods. I used the recommended load order by NMM and have had no issues.

I DO NOT use 'fose_loader.exe' to boot into the game; I use 'Fallout3.exe' from the FAP mod. I keep the fixes and
bypass the launcher altogether (though the launcher needs to be used to boot the game for the first time and
properly set the resolution).
