RESOLVED- Downloading TTW fixed my issue!

Good day everyone!

I have a bit of a pickle with running good ol' Fallout 3 on my laptop.

Now I'd just like to preface this by saying that I don't usually game on PC, I'm usually a casual console player. But Fallout 3 and NV are games I've wanted to play for a while, with full dlc and mods etc.

So I downloaded them from GOG and went to start Fallout 3, and it crashes whenever I click on "New game".

Rather oddly, Fallout NV runs just fine. I can get past the Doc Mitchell intro and making my character and it runs okay. Haven't played it further than goodsprings (I bought these games yesterday and haven't had much time to play), but the fact I can start the game and get past the launcher is a biggie.

Specs: OS-Windows 10

Model-System Model HP EliteBook 840 G1
Ram-8GB
Processor-Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4300U CPU @ 1.90GHz, 2501 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s)
Adaptor-Intel HD family.

I checked can you run it, and apparently I don't have enough video ram?? I don't know PC gaming.

Anyway I've tried:
1.The intel hd bypass. just made my game crash on the first screen rather than new game.
2.Compatability changes and running as admin. Again nothing.
3.Both reinstalled and tried to repair the game via gog galaxy. Nothing.
4.attempted with graphic settings in low and tried windowed mode. nothing.

Oh yeah and no Mods or patches or anything installed. or old saves.

It probably has to do with the integrated GPU. Fallout 3 has always been a bit more buggy than New Vegas when it comes to running it.

Here's a link to a mod on the Nexus that sometimes works for integrated video.

If that doesn't work, you can always try out Tale of Two Wastelands (TTW). It's a mod that allows you to play Fallout 3 within the New Vegas game. Here's a link to a video that gives a short description along with instructions on how to install it.

On the game card:
https://www.gog.com/game/fallout_3_game_of_the_year_edition
...it clearly says "Intel integrated graphics cards are not supported"
That mod works for some and not for others. Certainly worth a try and I hope it works.

Having a discrete video card is recommended for 3D gaming.

Awesome. There are quite a few mods for New Vegas that are similar to that of Fallout 3 that will work. If you haven't checked yet, go to the forums on the TTW website. There's a list there of Fallout 3 mods that have been ported over, as well. Happy wasteland exploring!
All good that ends well. Take this you mutant!
