Hello, please ignore my arrogance to the use of forum threads and computer savvy talk.

I just recently downloaded Fallout 3 GOTY for GOG for like 2 bucks, i had the vanilla version on steam and actually got that up and running for a while but i wanted the dlc's and i found out i could get it really cheap here so i deleted the steam version i bought years ago for the version on this site instead. only problem is when i go to start a new game it force closes on the loading screen. so i reintalled it and changed the directory from x86/progamfiles/GOG to its own folder directory, still crashes on the same screen. so i tried using the update/repair tool from the GOG install screen and it told me i had a corrputed file. i heard this game was supposed to work flawlessly from the get go on here but im having worse luck on here than i was on steam. im running an intel core i5 vpro with 4 gb's of ram. also i cleared the old directory i had from my steam version as well with all the save files i had for it thinking that was what was causing the crashes to no avail. pls someone help me with this annoying issue

Darksmores: so i tried using the update/repair tool from the GOG install screen and it told me i had a corrputed file.
So difficult to tell pure troll posts, but this 'smells' quite ripe. You answered your own question here. Download it again and allow the installer to verify before installing (you should have a tick box for that).

Also there are like a bazilion posts already giving advice on how to get it running, probably four or five on the first page here alone. Searching can help as can exact details on your situation (like what OS are you using etc).

Good luck.

I've been playing a heavily modded version of GOG goty version for years now, it's possible.

well clearly i havent answered my own question if i still cant get it to work. ive looked at everything. ive tried the script fix, nothing works. thanks for being an ass anyways.
Ok so not a one-post troll :)

Ok so have you tried downloading it again as per the error message you got? Not 'fixing it' or running any script. A complete new seperate download because the tool told you the file is corrupted (broken) which means it will not install properly. That's what i do when i get a 'corrupted file' error message (not common but it can happen).

There is a reason only one person has answered your initial post.

Your CPU most likely has more than 2 cores. Fallout 3's engine can't handle more than 2 cores.

This should work for that problem:
- locate fallout.ini (location might depend on your windows version, try My Documents\My Games\Fallout3)
- open it with a text editor
- change "bUseThreadedAI=0" into "bUseThreadedAI=1"
- enter a new line below "bUseThreadedAI=1" and place this there: iNumHWThreads=2
- save and exit
Yeah that is an old classic issue, but the OP's problem he did answer himself (unless he gave incorrect info).

For general good advice on the game the Fallout 3 wiki portal site is highly recommended as it contain many tips on getting it running (plus just about everything you want to know about the game).
