It seems to for the time being. It's actually kind of interesting. The game's launcher came up, I switched to the high preset, and it crashed everything. Loaded back up and seems to be fine now. I do think it needed more testing before putting it on GOG.

It did for me with one move - had to set compatibility mode to XP SP3 (as suggested on Bethesda net) and worked perfect. I cannot say if whole game works, but I have no reasons to expect otherwise. I was off to play the game 1 minute after installation. If not less.

I had no problems playing 2 hours of it or so. I closed it down myself. Will try another two and see how goes.

Edit ; After i went wild on mods, and used tools for that, had to revert the compatibility modes (didn't affect launching game from NMM, but did cause crash from launching from desktop)

However it does not change the point i tried to make at start of my post that game works and runs. I do not know why I had to use compatibility mode at start and revert later, but I, for one, do not regret buying this beauty again!

It worked fine for me without any tinkering. The launcher gave me an incompatibility message, but I just clicked okay and it worked fine. I'm using the newest build of Windows 10.

THERE IS A FIX
if you all ready tried everything :
1) open fallout 3 launcher
2)open data files "under option"
3) check load lose files
So even if I only have win10, DX12 (with a new-ish RTX card) - this game can work without installing an older version of DX?

DirectX 12 is compatible with earlier versions. You don't have to install them. The game should work out of the box, but remember that some people still have problems running it. I'm sure however that if you run into some trouble running the game, GOG Support will gladly help you. You can always ask for a refund if the problems persist.

Thank you! Time to re-live the past :)
I'm running windows 10 and directx 12 and the game launcher crashes to desktop everytime I try to run the game. I've never been able to get it open. I've done the compatibility options in every mode available. Tried several other fixes suggested online. No luck. Buyer beware.
my game launches and loads up fine and even runs fine but when ever im in combat after 30 seconds to a minute it will freeze or crash even after combat has ended it will still crash that goes for gog aswell as steam and microsoft versions. i love this game but i will get a refund if i cant play it without ball****
ok i just put it in compatibility mode xp sp3 and loaded loose files and it crashed almost instantly when started fighting. if i use a gun it crashes less than when i use a melee weapon and somtimes vats make it worse and somtime not.

i know this game originally runs at 30hz could it be that my monitor is too fast for the game as my monitor can only go as low as 50hz. bear in mind i have new vegas on steam and it works absolutely fine running at 240 hz and i think fallout 3 and new vegas have the same game engine so i dont understand ?

My top solution is to keep a gaming PC that is Win7 (or failing that, Win8.1) compatible. Win10 is just far too problematic for gamers because you never know what forced update is going to change and break something on your PC. Happens with my Mum's little Asus netbook all the time - every big Win10 update completely breaks the wifi and I have to manually hotwire the Win8 version's wifi driver back over it and ignore all the warnings it gives me. I've been doing this for 5 freaking years. And yes, all the netbook's (and it's wifi's) drivers were (and are) fully up-to-date but the problem returns with every big Win10 update.
To anybody in this thread that is planning on modding this game in 2020, I highly recommend using Mod Organizer 2, It makes debugging much easier when an issue is encountered and it leaves your install folder completely vanilla.

That's a nice piece of software, but it's extremely bloated with 'features' that you can't change or turn off.

That sucks, it seems like the game doesn't work the same way on every PC. I've downloaded and installed over 30 different DirectX 9 games from GOG that work in Windows 10 Pro, including Fallout 3. With a lot of these you need mods and bug fixes because the original company who made the game did not correct many issues (worst culprit I have seen is Fallout New Vegas).

These features are only enabled if and when the program requires them and many of them can be blackliste (in otherwords disabled), otherwise they are left inactive and the program really doesn't take up much more memory than 100MB, which is not a lot considering what the program does. it is much less bloated than counterparts such as Nexus Mod Manager (Old and Outdated), FOMM or Vortex. It plays no part in the performance of the game and the game remains unaffected by the program. Most experienced modders will advise you to use this and a large amount of mods specifically recommend it over all other programs.
