Hi All,

I recently picked up the fallout games from GOG and have been having a blast playing through them. I managed to complete Fallout 1 but I'm having some issues with Fallout 2.

This seems is this: some quest related NPC's wont speak to me, even if I meet the requirements for them to do so.

That's pretty vague, so I'll provide a couple of examples.

One is the Bartender Lou in Redding. She refuses to speak with you if you have Mutents or Ghouls in your party. Telling you to leave them outside her bar and come back and speak with her afterwards. Well I did that, (left them outside the bar), went back to speak with her, and no dice. Instead she tells me to leave the "freaks" outside the bar.

So I loaded up an earler save game from before I went to Redding. Left my party in New Reno, journeyed to Redding, went to speak with Lou, and you guessed it, no dice. She still refuses to speak with me. *sighs*

Now Redding's not essentail so in the interests of frustration I decided to skip it and move on. Eventually I made it to San Franciso and the tanker. Spoke to Chip, went through the whole quest to get his spleen, but the final guy (the surgeon) wont speak with me because I joined the Hubologists. Which prevents the game from going forward because the Captain of the tanker wont speak with me until I do something for his crew.

I tried rescuing the girlfriend of Badger. Afterwards Badger was grateful, but the captain still refuses to speak with me. Now I'm at the stage where I want to rip what little hair I have left out. Any tips, hints, or advice on how to get round this would be warmly appreciated.

Many thanks,

Raven

For the first question, generally when somebody says "leave them outside" it actually means "kick them out and come get them later." In some places, you'll actually need to leave them on another map. If they're well and truly kicked out, and she's still not talking to you, then that's a bug. Fallout 2 has a lot of those.

As for the second question, the Shi and the Hubologists hate each other. If you join one faction, the other generally won't deal with you. If you want to get Chip's spleen re-installed, you'll need to get yourself kicked out of the Hubologists. However, saving Badger's girlfriend SHOULD make the captain agree to talk to you, but you may need to ask him to hack something for you. If not, it's more bugginess. You may want to install killap's fix patch, which fixes a lot of these sort of quest-related errors.

In the future, do Chip's quest before joining the Hubologists. Because lots of the Shi will be mad at you if you're a member, you should probably always make sure to join them after you've done absolutely everything else in San Francisco.
Thanks bevinator,

I managed to get round the issue by reloading a much earler save and trying again. This is the first time I've played the fallout games, and I have to say how impressed I am with them. Man I wish more developers released rpgs like Fallout 1&2 these days.
