I am currently playing F2 and just got through the starter village, the second one you encounter (clearing the rat infestation) and am now in the gecko cave. I have noticed that I have not heard any music at all thus far. Is this normal, or my music playback broken/missing? I do hear all the sounds and ambiance fine, and the movies play fine as well.

No posts in this topic were marked as the solution yet. If you can help, add your reply
if you can hear the wind blowing like you are in desert then all is fine. music in fallout is all about ambience.

As you progress thru the game music will be better and better. I dont know why but in big cities is music great and in smaller ones is only ambient. I especially love Vault City music.
There IS music in the game and the installer from GOG is the problem.
go to your install directory.
go to *installdirectory*/data/sound/music
copy all files (ctrl+c)
go to *installdirectory*/sound/music
and past all the filer (ctrl+v)
this fixed it for me.
i have contacted support about both the problem and the solution.

lol.. I'm not sure his solultion really worked , since I also didn't have sound, and did what he said. But I think I just forgot to turn up the volume..
This is not a fix for no sound problems. its only if you have no ingame music.
And only for fallout 2, as far as i know.
Dont know why the installer installs the music files in the wrong directory.

Hmm I also have had a "sound" folder in the wrong directory of my fallout 2 installation. It is strange, because I only have had the folder there. In /data/sound/music/ still was all the ingame music. So everything was correct.
fallout2.cfg is pointing the game to the wrong music folder. datasoundmusic is correct but it's listed as
music_path1=soundmusic
music_path2=soundmusic
You can either change it or copy the files.
EDIT: for some reason these forums kill backslashes.

Yea, the wrong folder is what I discovered too. As the above poster said, either edit the config or copy the files.
Is there somewhere I can report the issue?

This is not just a problem with the GOG installer. The White Label collection I bought has the same issue. As you say, it can be fixed by moving the music directory (or editing the fallout.cfg entry)
Still it should be fixed, and I'm sure the GOG guys are working on it.
It's a simple fix of opening the fallout2.cfg with Notepad (or any other text editor) and changing the music folder path to data_sound_music. But yes, GOG should fix this.

Some forums require a double or triple backslash
data\sound\music
This forum uses three backslashes to produce one
