Hello!

I have Fallout 2 from GOG installed with the restoration project mod. I'm having an annoying problem. The game is unplayably slow when in fullscreen mode. I tested changing the graphics mode in the ddraw.ini to 5 which is dx9 windowed mode and the game ran fine without a hich! I have tried matching my descktop resolution and the game resolution and that also failed.

I hate the windowed mode so if someone has any ideas I'd like to hear them.

And yes I tried searching NMA and GOG for a solution but tell me if I missed it!

EDIT: By the way I have windows 7, and I had this installed on my mothers win 7 laptop last weekend and it ran fine in the "4" mode. Almost finished the game so this is really annoying!

If you're using mode 4, make sure gpublt is set to 1 too. Also, if you're using the res patch, the speed of mode 4 scales really badly with res patch resolution; at high resolutions you're better off sticking to mode 0 and using the 16 or 32 bit colour mode of the res patch instead.

Odd that mode 4 and 5 are working at different speeds though; they should be pretty much the same, for a given resolution. That kind of suggests that your graphics drivers are doing something wacky.

We're 11 years later but this post helped me to tweak performance on my old linux laptop! Switching to mode 0 in ddraw.ini gave me a much appreciated extra boost (the other life saving setting being SingleCore=0 also found in ddraw.ini)
