I first tried playing the game via wine, but the resolution is just too small to play comfortably so i tried the high-res mod. However that didn't work for me because wine would just crash.
So i figured i would just run it in VMware player on win XP, however this didn't work either. With or without the high-res patch. Basically the game will show the loading screen, then try to start the movie, but it freezes and i have to force-quit it.
I've tried running it in win95/98 compatibility mode, but that didn't change anything.
So if anyone knows a solution to this problem i would like to hear it.

I have a similar problem except in my case the game don't eve launch if I have any mods installed, I just get an error message saying 'fallout 2 seams to be running in compatibility mode'.
I have got
VMware fusion 2.0
win XP sp3
works fine if I don't install any mods but I would just really like to have the resolution mod, a bit annoying to have a 20" monitor and then play on a stamp.
