stobors: So I took the quest from the brotherhood to go to the glow and I did all the stuff in the glow and I'm leaving, but if I try to travel back to the brotherhood, while I am traveling I just up and die all of a sudden. The screen literally just goes to the death screen immediately and with no explanation. I've figured out that the problem is is somehow related to time because If I rest for long enough (a day or two) I also immediately die.
And, yes, I have finished the water chip quest and no it has not been that long (in game days) since I started the game. I'm at april 06 2162.
Has anyone else had this problem or ever seen anything like this?
Dude, there's a reason the place is called "The Glow."
It's a Radioactive Wonderland!
You took too much Radiation Damage and that's what killed you. Radiation does the damage over time after a delay, which is why you don't die until after you leave the map or wait a few hours.
To see that you have been radiated, you can look at the Character Screen. A few lines below your Hit Points is a line that will tell you that you've been radiated. You will also see text warnings that "You have received a large dose of radiation" in the Display Monitor window on the lower left of the Interface Bar.
If you happen to have a Geiger Counter, you can equip it and click "use" to see your REM count appear in the Display Window. If you have been in The Glow for more than a few rooms, the number will be huge - in the thousands. You have no hope of curing this with Rad-away because the drugs only clear out around 150 per dose.
In order to survive in the Glow, you must take two doses of Rad-X before you enter the map location. Two doses is enough to put your Radiation Resistance up to 100%. You actually want to stop just short of The Glow on the World Map, take your meds, and then continue on. Otherwise, you take a big dose of radiation just looking at the hole in the ground. Don't stay too long in The Glow, or the Rad-X will wear off, and then
you will glow. No reading of books! Note that NPCs are immune to radiation (Ian, Dogmeat, etc.)
If you don't have enough Rad-X, there's a guy who sells it in the Hub. He's in the upper right of the Eastern area.
