I've installed this game on two machines according to the steps outlined in the Fallout MODs sticky thread. However, on both machines I get terrible screen tearing when scrolling the screen. All I have to do is start a new game and start scrolling around that first cave to see it. Here are the machines I'm using:

#1 - WinXP, AMD Trinity APU
#2 - Win7 x64, AMD 7790

I've tried every combination of "wait for vertical refresh" in CCC along with the refresh rate option provided by the high res patch that I can think of. I've also tried renaming ddraw.dll and even replacing it with the wined3d ddraw. However, nothing seems to make a difference.

The only thing in common between those two machines is the AMD graphics, so I'm wondering if that may have something to do with it.

Has anyone else experienced this? I'm hoping that there might be some configuration that I've overlooked. Thanks!

Is the Hi-Res patch definitely working? Sounds like the original game is playing without it. My copy does the same unless the patch is applied properly.

Try a fresh installation and only apply the FIXT mod.

I assume it's working since I have access to all of the different resolutions and options the patch offers, but yeah, clearly whatever part of it is supposed to fix the tearing isn't working.

Thanks for the suggestion - I gave this a try on both machines tonight, but no luck. The problem still occurs with the latest version of Fixt (I used the Fixes Only build with the Purist setting, if that matters). I'm guessing it may be because Fixt seems to use the same version of the high-res patch that I was applying manually to begin with.

Anyway, thanks for the help so far. Unfortunately there's really no way I can put dozens of hours into a game with this kind of graphical annoyance (screen tearing is the one thing that will absolutely drive me crazy every second that I'm playing).

I'll probably check back in a few months and see if there are any new versions of these patches I can try. Might also try to dig up an old Nvidia card just for the hell of it.

It might be a bit of a silly thing you could of missed. Try making sure the refresh rate is maxed in your display settings in game. It can cause some tearing.
