So my mouse is laggy on Fallout 1 so I used the method of renaming the ddraw.dll file. Now the game keeps going black every once in a while. You can erase the black with the cursor, but it happens often enough that it's too annoying to play (mouse lag or black screen problem). Anyone knows what's going on?

Alai: Now the game keeps going black every once in a while.

Have you tried closing any programs you run in the background?
I was plagued by this until I closed them.
But I need music and other things in the background. Is there any other solution?
try putting on the resolution patch and then renaming ddraw.dll
Then it just runs in a tiny window in the middle of a black background.

but it runs?
Yes it does.
The resolution patch would make your main menu smaller, but in-game it should fill the whole screen.
I have the same black screen problem, but managed to get through the whole game with it. A bit annoying, but if you move the map (touch the edges with the mouse or the arrow keys), the whole screen should be redrawn, except the menu.
I think there was a discussion about this some time ago and someone found a solution, but can't find it right know. :(

No... But it plays so small in the tiny window that it makes my eyes hurt. I tried changing the resolution in the ini/cfg (I ferget, I'm at work) file but that doesn't do anything.

Edit: Main menu will be smaller? As in, once I finish making a character and start the game, the game will fill the screen? I only ran it to see if it would work and it starts as a tiny window. I will give it a shot when I get home for lunch.

It will be a larger window. That is how it works.

Oh. Thank you guys! Wow. Someone should let people know in the mods thread. I'm going to do it right now.

Lol. I meant to give both you guys credit for the solution. I didn't know you can't do two. Also, he technically posted the solution first (that's also why I incidentally marked his as solution first... I was going from top to bottom).
