I appreciate all the games in the Fallout franchise but like a good amount of fans i only knew of fallout from fallout 3 and new vegas but when i discovered they were other games before that I had to try it out, I did not know that I would embrace the first 2 fallout games and they became some of my favorite games of all time... This is a video on the first fallout game

no matter how i feel about fallout 3 ( I dont hate it ..just my least favorite fallout game... that does not mean I think it is bad though) , I have to thank Bethesda because if it was not for Fallout 3 I would never have discovered the fallout games that came before it.
Fantastic review!!!
Excellent job. As an old Fallout fan who's been around since the beginning it's cool to see folks who started with Fallout 3 learn to appreciate the originals.
Thanks for the video. It actually made me feel like starting a new playthrough. I played the demo back in 1997 or 1998, but only got to play the full game in 2006 when I was more appreciative of the genre.

I hate Fallout 3 with a passion so for me it was extra nice to hear that you started out with that game and was still able to enjoy and show love for the original game. You not only seem to like it but give it very high praise.

In terms of tone and setting I think Fallout 1 is the best. Fallout 2 was a little too loose and wacky while Fallout 3 didn't seem to have any respect for the license and no subtlety at all. I never played New Vegas but it seems to be closer to Fallout 2 in tone,

You probably know this since there's been plenty of buzz about it recently, but in case you don't...

Fallout 1 was inspired by a great game from the late 1980s called Wasteland. Some of the same folks who worked on Wasteland also worked on Fallout. Now some of the same folks who worked on Fallout are making Wasteland 2. Lots of Fallout fans (and probably all Wasteland fans, me included) are keeping a close eye on Wasteland 2.

Even though it's ancient by game standards, good old Wasteland is worth trying if you like Fallout.

Truth be told, it's got a lot of issues, to the point where I couldn't finish it. It's not clear from the game itself what attributes affect what skills, and it's not clear what some skills do (looking at you, Combat Shooting), and if you make a party that's not well rounded (which is likely due to the preceding), you stand a pretty high chance of getting pounded into the dirt. Thankfully, there are sites that explain these things (with the exception of Combat Shooting), but even then the lack of clarity on how to use skills without reading a guide and risking spoilers can get infuriating. Also, people who don't care for Fallout 2's goofiness are probably going to have a similar reaction to Wasteland, because it can get pretty damn weird itself.b

EIther way, regardless of whether you play it or not, this guy's LP is particularly fun to watch.

Ha! Just be glad you didn't play it when it first came out, when you had to swap 5.25" floppy disks from time to time.

It's a typical 1980s game with everything that brings with it, both good and bad. In those days there was nothing like GOG.com, so you might buy a game like Wasteland and play it for six months. There weren't any LP videos or on-line guides to look at.

If you're going to use a guide (and if you're under 35 years of age, you'll probably have to), I recommend Per Jorner's:
