during the end of my turn, the game freeze and when i return to windows, i have this message :
"The instruction at 00e72023 referenced memory at 00000000
The memory could not be read. "

when i rename "ddraw.dll" to "ddraw.exe", the game will not start (error initializing video mod)

don't rename to, just rename ddraw.dll to something else. don't change to .exe.

try right clicking on the shortcut and going to the compatibility menu and changing it to use win95 compatibility, also try the high resolution patch and other things on the FAQ.
a 640x480 error is easier worked with than the first one.
