I recently installed Fallout from here at GOG. Anyway, each time I run it, the screen goes black and I have to alt tab out to get this message:
"The instruction at 00e72023 referenced memory at 00000000
The memory could not be read. "

try redownloading/reinstalling and then if that doesn't work, try exiting other programs before you play. renaming falloutw.exe might do the trick, you may want to give deleting ddraw.dll a shot too, although that doesn't sound like it would be the issue.

Thanks, I renamed ddraw.dll and it works perfectly now.
