First of all thanks for taking the time to read/answer this. I had already downloaded fallout 2 on my mac some years ago through illicit means (imma pirate :D) and it worked perfectly well, after awhile I got bored and removed it. Now I just downloaded fallout 1/2/tactics through gog and the opposite seems to be occurring.

In fallout 1 the cursor has a mind of its own, it was flying around everywhere at the slightest movement of the mouse, so I lowered my mouse's sensitivity to its lowest possible. What I have now is a a very slow and somehow spastic cursor. It lacks any finesse making gameplay slow and all around unfun. The same thing occurs in fallout 2 to some degree (not superslow but still super boring).
*I used to use a different mouse when I first played fallout 2 but then I then a changed to a wireless mouse that worked with a drawing pad. After seing how badly the cursor moved, I used an older model of the Mac mouse but the nothing really changed. could it perhaps be an issue with the mouse?*

Both fallout1/2 are very slow. At least when they run, it looks like my character suffers from some sort of muscle atrophy when running, making it eternal to move anywhere.

What advice could you guys offer me?

Once again thank you very much for reading/answering, your parents must be proud of you.

There were problems reported with the Mac OS X mouse acceleration.
Try setting the "Tracking speed" to the maximal possible level in Keyboard & Mouse preferences.

1. Enter "System Preferences" from you dock or Applications folder
2. Press "Keyboard & Mouse" option
3. Set "Tracking speed" under Mouse tab to the maximal possible level and launch the game
4. To revert the changes after play follow the steps again and set your tracking speed to desired level

Fallout 1 and 2 appear to run better with the Hi-Res Patch installed and using DirectX7 mode.

Fallout2 Hi-Res Patch
- It's for the Windows version but you can simply open Fallout1_High_Resolution_Patch_4.1.5.exe with a file decompression software like 7zip http://www.7-zip.org/download.html (there's also a Mac version).
- Extract the content of the file into your Fallout folder in the game's package
- It works the same way for Fallout 2

Now install the Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0 Redistributable (msvcp60.dll) for the patch to work
- A save way to get the DLL would be downloading Service Pack 6 for Visual Basic 6.0
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=9183
- Open the file with a decompression software and extract vcredist.exe
- Now open vcredist.exe with the same software and extract msvcp60.dll
- Put msvcp60.dll in .wine/drive_c/windows/system

If it doesn't work properly, tell the High Resolution patch to use DirectX7 mode
- run f1_res_Config.exe for configuration through Wine
- alternatively look for the f1_res.ini file in your Fallout folder (f2_res.ini for Fallout 2), open it and set GRAPHICS_MODE=1

Holy shit thats alot of stuff. I'll let you know if it works, thanks :)
Ok, I can get about halfway through the instructions, but the microsoft C++ thing doesn't download into a file I can decompress so I can't go any further with those instructions. I tried the "f1_res.ini" thing but I honestly have no idea where to start. If you could give me a more step by step instruction I'd be very grateful.
After downloading the Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0 Redistributable, you end up with a file named Vs6sp6.exe
This can be opened with a decompression software to see its content (7zip is able to do so).

Inside you'll find a file named vcredist.exe.
Extract this to your hard disk and again open it with a decompression software.
Inside you'll find the needed msvcp60.dll file
Extract it to your hard drive (you can delete the latter two files now, as msvcp60.dll is all you need)
Now move the msvcp60.dll into .wine/drive_c/windows/system

The Hi-Res patch won't work without this file. Once it does, you can configure it by editing the f1_res.ini.
You'll find the file inside your Fallout package.
Open the ini-file with an text editor and set GRAPHICS_MODE=1

Have you tried this yourself? I don't know its not working. I've downloaded 2 versions of 7zip and neither is able to decompress the file.
I finally decompressed it somehow :D

However, Im at a loss at this part:

Do I use wineskin?
The GOG version is supposed to be based on wine. But it may be capsuled in the Fallout package.

If you have trouble finding the windows/system folder of the wine environment in which Fallout runs, just copy msvcp60.dll into the Fallout folder inside the package (the same folder where the patch files and the fallout executables are)

Hey, thanks for the helpful instructions but whenever I try to run any of the Hi-Res .exe files or the Vs6sp6.exe file I just get a message saying that "Microsoft Windows applications are not supported on OS X". I'm running OS X Mavericks too so I'm pretty sure that I cannot find a workaround to run the Hi Res packs. I was able to get Killap's unofficial patch to work for FO2 (doesn't fix nearly all the bugs but it's still better than running vanilla FO2) but that's as much luck as I've ever had with mods/patches for Fallout on Mac OS X...

Please read the posts above, you can't run these Windows executables (except within Wine), but have to open them with a decompression software (like 7zip). Decompress the files you need and copy them into the Fallout folder.

Unfortunately I can't provide a step-by-step at the moment, as I don't have a Mac here right now.
Hi everyone,
I'm asking, where is the "language folder"(english) on MacOS because i want to change this one, so if somebody can help me this is great :)

I could not make this work. The game did not run in any other resolution after doing this and setting resolution to 1680x1050 in f2_res.ini. Changing from WINDOWED=1 to 0 had no effect.

What part of it makes sure that the patch is actually applied when fallout2.exe is run?

Edit: I think I found the problem. It seems that "alternatively look for the f1_res.ini file [...]" was not meant as an alternative to running f1_res_Config.exe
