I'm a long time Fallout fan and love squad-based tactical games. I really wanted to like this game, but the tactical part of the game is lacking. The real-time combat is an exercise in frustration. When I would engage the enemy in this mode I usually ended up with at least one member of the squad killed.
Turn-based combat, on the other hand, is a walk in the park. A two man team can easily sweep an entire map of enemies leaving your other four squad members as pack mules. And, you'll need these pack mules because, despite being a member of the Brotherhood of Steel, you have to barter for weapons, armor, and supplies.
And, while I think SPECIAL is one of the coolest methods for character generation the implementation is weak. There are stats, like charisma, that offer very little in terms of gameplay. In addition, there are quite a few skills that you can completely ignore.
It's not that Fallout Tactics is a bad game, it's just not on par with it's peers.
