after killing the first 2 scorpions in the cave I can't leave is this a bug?
I had this problem as well; I ended up being able to leave by going to the extreme left...but the cave itself didn't scroll. hmm... Had to go to work so I didn't get to explore further.

Are you using the Full Res mod by any chance?
I am, I don't know about the Original Poster though.
Heres the fix ;)
Also, I don't know if anyone else has had this problem, but with the hi-res pack I couldn't go anywhere in the radscorpion cave. I could move around the screen, but I couldn't scroll to go anywhere else other than the first bit you can see. It appears to be wrong numbers put into an .ini file.
If you have this problem, go to the "f1_res" folder and open "map_edges_F1.ini" - in it you'll see the edges mapped out by number for each section of the game. Here is what I have for the Caves section:
NAME = CAVES
ELEVATION = 1
LEFT_EDGE = 1568
RIGHT_EDGE = 2540
TOP_EDGE = 1840
BOTTOM_EDGE = 1532
I'm not sure if these are accurate, but they worked for me. Have fun!
I have a similar problem, when I start up fallout 1, I find it extremely difficult to quit.
not that there's anything wrong, I mean, I really could quit out pretty easily, I just like the game too much.
:D
Thanks for the fix! I'll try it out a bit later.
...and it seems i need to change my icon :P
I like this cause it works on my oldish laptop really well...
I hope GOG works out a deal to get the black isle/bioware RPGs on here..that would rock!
FYI: I just tried that fix and it didn't work. I'm gong to reinstall fallout on this machine later and probably just play it without the resolution patch.

Another thing you can do is to change these in the f1_res.ini to 1:
"IGNORE_MAP_EDGES = 0"
"IGNORE_PLAYER_SCROLL_LIMITS = 0"
That should allow you to get out, I had the same problem myself and as far as I can remember I only changed the "IGNORE_MAP_EDGES", but better safe than sorry, after you're out of the cave you can change it back again. (if it reappears elsewhere it's just to do the same again)

That's what I had to do. No matter what I typed in as the cave dimensions never seemed to work.
none of that worked for me for some reason, so I just went ahead and uninstalled the patch. besides the patch just made everything ultra tiny. I'd love a patch that scales the view point and ups the resolution... That would take a whole lot of work though, I am guessing.

Thanks matthewmpw64. Editing the map edge ini file with the settings you posted worked for me.
I also tried the ignore map edge and scroll limit tip from Rainstorm, but that didn't work for me.

Try the cursor trick described here to regain scrolling...worked a treat for me..http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=45217&highlight=scroll+radscorpion+cave
I also had that problem in 1920*1200, lowered the resolution (to 1680*1050) and I got the ability to scroll the map back.
I find sometimes it won't let me scroll the map because I'd be moving 'too far away' from my character.
