My firewall says that when Fallout BOS starts it attempts to check in with Microsoft (131.107.115.28) on port:80. This puzzles me greatly. I can imagine no reason that it should need to do this - at least not any legitimate reason..
I tell it to go away, but I haven't made it a permanent rule - because I do not understand it.
Does anyone have the same issue? Is this a joke, a bug, a feature - or possibly some incipient trojan code?
WinXP sp3; AVG w/ firewall v8.0

Umm.. Brotherhood of Steel..? Isn't that the Console version???
Do you mean Fallout Tactics?
Uh, nope... the executable is BOS.exe .. the game is Fallout Tactics, but the offending program is definitely BOS (5,345,342 bytes last modified 4/24/2008 at 4:36.32 PM.)
Alright, I've looked into it, and you're right (I don't have a copy of this game, not yet anyway). As To why, it appears it's because of DirectyPlay

Wow, how you found that is beyond me - but it sure sounds right. With your information, I was able to tie into some other material which indicates this is a Certificate validation site - which sounds like a good idea for multiplayer.
Thank you for the missing piece (which addressed the source of my missing peace).
I'm going to be honest with you, I have too much time on my hands at work.
I basically did a google search for 'Fallout Tactics Firewall Microsoft' and if you notice that first link mentions those phrases. :)
