After playing it for some Hours the game suddenly starts to crash (ctd) if I enter a battle. Anybody got any Ideas? Would like to finish the game...
Best,
D

What are your specs?
Also, is it any specific fights that do this?
2,9 Gigabyte Ram, Geforce gtx 660m, i7-3610QM, win7 premium

No problems until now. It happened after I left the Port of the first city having fought against the rebels - so its the second part of the game and EVERY fight crashes (I restarted the game for testing and there wasnt a problem).

Best,

Same is happening here too.

Started after leaving the intial Hispaniola Island.

The offitial forums have several posts about people with the same issue... hopefully they will patch it up soon.

Great game so far btw.. pitty theese crashes.
Strangely now its working again. I wont mark a post as a solution, because there seems to be none until now and I have done nothing, that would have changed it i can think of. I dont know - anyway, its working again. It is indeed a really really great game!
It's quite possible it's due to the "low" amount of RAM you have. We're working on trying to reduce the footprint so that it won't happen as often.
@Novaesky,
ok, thank you - are you part of the design team? Anyway, even if I think 2,9 GB are not really low: Thats one phantastic game, I enjoy it a lot!

2.9 gigabytes is an odd number for memory - it's usually in multiples of 2.

In the meantime, if memory is an issue, you might improve stability a bit by shutting down as many background programs as you can before starting the game. (Leave your firewall running, but pretty much everything else should be turned off.)

Interestingly there was NO problem with performance on hispania (the first island). For me, the first crash happened when it was loading mainland after leaving hispania. Reloading allowed me to continue but another crash around hour later trying to load save. The save is also giving error loading it so possible data corruption? I can continue to play the game after loading the save but I'm worried it stops working later enirely. Should I upload it for further study?

Specs:

WinXP Pro SP3
Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 2.66GHz
2 * 1Gt 800MHz DDR2 Non-ECC CL5 Dimm
ASUS Radeon HD7770 DirectCU PCIE 1GB
Dell UltraSharp U2412M 24" 1920x1200

Game does not stress my cpu badly but GPU fan does speed up during game. Alt-tabbed game takes about 1.2GB ram and 20% of my processor capacity.

Shouldn't I start seeing choppiness first when RAM runs out. I mean other games do when they are forced to rely on virtual RAM/pagefile on my HDD? I've had games that required more RAM on my (old) GPU and started losing textures and whatnot but my new one has 4 times (1GB instead of 256MB) what my old one had.

Edit: May have found cause of the error. The map file related to save is only 1kB where it's 16385kB on others (there's few that 6145kB but I think those are from hispania). Have to check if replacing it with map from other save would fix it. Ive attached the save (save, map, log) below. Just rename it to zip and extract.

He probably has 2*1GB and 2*512MB memory cards. It's unusual to see anything lower than 1GB these days but they used to be normal few years back. On the other hand even my 6 year old desktop has 2*1GB.

Are there any in game settings that I can change? The crashes related to battle have become so frequent that it's made the game all but unplayable.

I never had this problem in Hispanola.
Lowering the audio and video settings might help, particularly if it's a memory issue. You could also try disabling sound entirely to see if that makes a difference.

If you haven't done a video driver update then that's also an option, and it may be worthwhile resetting everything to default in the driver control panel/control center afterwards, since custom settings often cause conflicts.
