Evil Genius is a fun concept but it clearly was rushed and under developed. The pacing is painfully slow and many aspects of the game are annoying rather than fun. You will spend hours of not really doing anything waiting for random research to complete or for your minions to complete their tasks.
Trap systems are difficult to use without killing half your base personnel. The implementation of many of the games functions simply were not thought out well.
People compare this game to Dungeon Keeper but personally it made me think of games like startopia, sims and theme hospital.
Evil Genius has limited strategy and has slow as a snail pacing. I have played many games of this genre and I believe this to be the worst one of its kind. Some have said the game will probably take about 40 hours to complete and they are correct. Evil Genius is a persistent environment game. You build your base and achieve your objectives until it is concluded. There are no levels, missions or campaigns. Only a list of objectives to complete.
I did enjoy the theme of the game, as well as the visual presentation and the animations. I think the concept was excellent but I wish it was executed better. The pacing really killed it for me and I believe myself to be a patient person. This game could have been great.
If you enjoy casual very slow paced games and just enjoy watching your base operate then this game might hold more appeal for you.
