The unofficial 1.1 patch has a number of fixes. This is separate to the World Domination Starter Kit. I'd recommend using it, but it's up to you.

As for the World Domination Starter Kit bonus CD itself, you don't have to burn it to a disc at all. Just download the zip file from GOG, extract it to a folder (any folder as it is just temporary), then run the WorldDominationStarterPack.exe. Select your Evil Genius installation folder and let it run. I would imagine that WorldDominationStarterPack.exe and setup.exe are required, considering their sizes, but I've not run it without the other files. Once it has installed, though, you can safely delete the temporary folder where you extracted the zip file to.
