I don't know whether this was mentioned anywhere in the game, but I completely missed that detail. Consequently, because one of the optional objectives referenced an infirmary chair, I thought that I still had to research it (in addition to the examination chair that I already had) and wasted a lot of time waiting for my scientists to pick up on that.

Just want to point that out in the off chance that it might help somebody.
