CWolfxUK: I thought saving in stations was an on-purpose restriction.
To me it makes sense, adds some planning and risk.
RFG_Ingmar: The auto save system (on location entered) is basically inherited from ES1. Which made totally sense for ES1: Once you move forward, there is no turning back. Manual saves on stations were added for ES2 and deemed sufficient. So yes that was an on-purpose restriction. Because dying and just being revived (no consequences) is boring.
But then we started to... well ... we made locations bigger than original planned because 'HELL WE CAN'.
Now players need much more time to completely explore a location and if they do not plan ahead and get killed, they have to start over 'on enter location' and that can cause a lot of frustration... so maybe we will change this to an 'auto save each X mins'... maybe we will tie the save options to the dificulty setting... but those are all on going considerations as of now.
I really get it - Flying Duchess beacons are just godsend in those locations as some of them can take really long time to finish and you can just dock and save.
If not saving on location, then maybe save at exit when docked? I found out that as closing the session I was docking to the station and then pretty often I was doing some maintenance on ship, selling cargo, purchasing stuff and then I was forgetting to save before closing. I know it's a pure clumsiness on my part, but it would save some frustration when doing so :)
