I am trying to set up the controls for my X52 professional as I don't like the gamepad controls. I use the HOTAS for Elite Dangerous with T-Flight Rudder pedals, and have disconnected the pedals as a precaution to ensure they weren't causing the issue.

Every time I click the mouse on an axis to assign, it is automatically populated with Axis 4 on the HOTAS. This happens with every analogue axis without fail.

Any help would be appreciated.

I am running the latest version of the game, on Windows 10 Pro 64 bit.

Regards

Hello,
This sounds like there is some non-zero input coming from the axis. Try to recalibrate them using the Windows controller settings, or your HOTAS software.
We also have an example configuration for the X56 which might be similar to what you want, if you're interested check out https://www.dropbox.com/s/hc6lhua8es6okbb/Saitek-x56-Example-Mapping.zip?dl=1
