Konske: I suppose this kind of video crash is what keeps happening to my Tempest campaign, which I can't get beyond the first two missions - it always crashes before the briefing for the 3rd.
The campaign begins in May '44, with the 3rd mission set to take place early June '44, so while I don't remember (someone who knows for sure could confirm), I guess there's a video shown there.
Let me say that I'm actually very glad about the rollback to 1.2. The code group's effort are appreciated and applauded, but the most important thing when getting a game on GOG (which used to stand for Good Old Games) is the nostalgia hit, and for that, the game should look as much as possible exactly like back then. Already the 1.28 version had some differences (tracers look, hitboxes, the single mission aircraft selection screen etc).
So having the 1.2 available and fixed up is great, we can get the community patches at our leisure.
And therefore, I would really hope to see a 1.2 fix for the campaign videos, rather than having to use a later version. I should add that have already tried:
- empty movies cdf file
- changing audio to 8-bit and back
ideas picked from the troubleshoot section of a "European Air War Help Site" - neither made a difference, the campaign still crashes.
I agree absolutely to you OLDIMMELMAN, we should be VERY happy that GOG has turned down the version number of their release. Version 1. 2 was superb in its original way, great that GOG did this move so that we have the untouched product as it was released from Microprose.
Did you report the video problems and situation in which the crashes occur to GOG already? I believe this should be the way as in this forum no one from GOG is monitoring the discussed problems since weeks... Additional I still have the problems with the newsreel films, as these run superb but everytime in the middle of the films short freezes or stuttering begins... like some buffer is full or something.
