I recently bought EU2 from GOG.com, and it won't load(keep getting Europa Universalis 2 has stopped working)

I tried all the fixes I could find online about this issue
I have loaded the game in C:\Europa Universalis 2
Set the application colour to 16 bit
Tried all compatibility options
Renamed the avi folder
Updating my drivers

Is there any other fixes for this issue? Any help would be appreciated.

i have same problem but with EU 1, i have buy it right now and i can't play, someone know solutions? settings, commands ecc

I generally do not install games in C:\Programs\... as Windows newer than 7 expects Administrator rights when installed in that folder. My EU2 is e.g.
G:\Paradox\Europa Universalis 2
and I use the compatibility setting for Windows 98/Me
