I have tried several compatibility options, but none of them work. The game starts with a black screen, at first, then crashes, and I am presented with two different error messages. I have attached images of both error messages.

It is important to know I use an ATI Radeon 5900 series graphics card - I know these cards don't always work well with some, if not most games. I attempted to play a different game, once, and it warned me that CrossFire X was enabled. However, I have no idea how to disable this, and I can't find anything in the Catalyst Control Center specifically labeled CrossFire X.

Any suggestions?

Same error. AMD card here, too. I have disabled Xfire but it doesn't solve anything.

The Game crashes when desktop resolution differs from game resolution when started in fullscreen.
Set your desktop resolution to e.g. 1024x768, it won't crash.

Check the settings.ini for fullscreen=x and more...
