I have all four Goblin keys but when I touch the obelisk, nothing happens. I have watched a let's play (Byron's) and as soon as he touches the obelisk, the stairs to level 2 open. Any idea what could be wrong? Thanks.

Which book? My guess is that you might have forgotten an event flag, such as talking to someone? Maybe your journal would reveal something useful.
