So I got fooled by the werewolf. I decided not to kill Zed and went back to take out the werewolf. Killed the hairy monster... and now Zed doesn't accept it?

What gives?
For whatever moronic reason killing the werewolf doesn't count as killing the werewolf unless I ooga boogah! surprise attack him the first time I talk to him. Is there a way to modify the save game to fix up this idiocy?

Did you bring him the pelt? As I recall any way you kill the werewolf should count.

Or did you abandon your original quest to kill the werewolf, in favor of killing Zed, then change your mind? In which case your quest journal would have the alternate quest listed.

Yeah, I dun goofed. When Zed told me he wasn't a werewolf, I went to the Hermione or whatever his name was and killed him, brought the pelt back, and for whatever reason he won't accept it.
Edit: I had read on the official forums that if you delete/shuffle some files around you can reset/change NPCs.

The only thing I've heard is to delete the map(s) in question. This should reset everything to brand new state which may help. This is supposed to work in book 1 but I'm not sure how well it will for book 2. Book 2 may handle quests differently, so I'd make a backup of the map files before replacing them. Xolotl's character editor won't help you but his map editor might.

You could just kill 'em both and let Minas sort 'em out. As for me, my merchant didn't give a damn who the werewolf was. He stuck with his kind and favored the merchant, killing the vagabond.

I had thought about that. The problem is, I see numbers for the map files...

Which ones are for the town and West Kess Basin?

Edit: So for anyone that is curious, this savegame editor page lists them.

Double Edit: So West Kess Basin and Central Farrock are the two maps that I need to get rid of, however, the quest is still in my log. So what I'm going to try is to complete the botched quest, get it out of the list, then redo it.

Triple Edit: I'm working with the save files.

ShadowWulfe: ...
Which maps did you replace? The ones in the game folder or the ones in your save folder? You need to alter your save maps.

If you don't know where your save games are, load up the game to the main menu. Click on the line of text at the bottom (version number) and that will tell you your save location.

I removed the maps from the save files. The maps were reset, but the lycanthropy quest was not.

Would trying out the savegame editor be different than just removing the maps from the save files? I'm incredibly frustrated with this. It's not that I got duped, it's that for some mystical reason killing the werewolf doesn't count as killing the werewolf unless I stab him in the face without provocation.

Did you try actually copying virgin map files into your save folder? It may be that simply deleting the maps doesn't reset them properly. Just guessing here.

I played with Xolotl's editor for a bit, but saw nothing to edit quests. I was able to get a script editor for the hunter, but it didn't actually let me see or edit the scripts, just rearrange their order.

I'll add that I don't think you necessarily have to attack the merchant without provocation, you just have to have the quest still active. I'm guessing what happened is this:

Talk to hunter. Get Lycan quest 1 (kill merchant).
If you talk to the merchant and agree to kill the hunter, the "real" lycan, then at that point Lycan quest 1 = FAILED. You then have Lycan quest 2 appear in log (kill hunter). If after getting Lycan quest 2 you THEN kill the merchant and take the pelt to the hunter, the hunter won't care because Lycan quest 1 is already failed. If you right click your quest book, you'll see a list of all your inactive quests. Lycan 1 will be there.

Other than this, I'm sorry, I don't know of anything else to suggest. You could try asking the dev (Basilisk Wrangler) or other posters on the official forum, but I doubt you'll get anywhere. It is an indie game after all, so everything isn't polished nicely.

At the least, if you kill the hunter now you can take his ring, which offers a minor magical bonus. You'll get a few coins for selling it and killing him may remove the lycan quest from your log.
This quest was a pain because each of the characters that is telling their side of the story, look like Artemis Entreri nefarious characters or evil rogue/fighters. When I first got the quest I botched the whole thing up. About lvl 5 or 6 for fighters with good equipment, archers and mages can get by with 4 or 5 lvl and enough tactics.
I was already reluctant to proceed when the guy asked me to kill a merchant. When the merchant instead offered me more coin to kill, I jumped on it. I don't remember what level I was.

It would have been nice as a "businessman" to be able to blackmail the merchant for hush money.
I will tell you all this-I had trouble with the Lon Chaney Jr. fight or werewolf whatever you call him, until I decided to think like a wolf. I started howling at the moon and the next time I fought him with a club, my weapon found its mark.

Your welcome, that's one piece of free advice.

Oh and one of the characters in book 2 is homosexual. Bet you cant guess which one. HAHA
Alright, new strategy: I'll get the quest out of my log (again), replace INSTEAD of delete the maps, and howl at the moon for extra to hit points.
Whats funny is that I can actually see someone howling at the game monitor while nothing happens, lol. The funniest moments I had in similar indie gaming was from spiderweb's games Avadon and Avernum EFTP.

Mandvi the blood cultist-"Thantria..that", he refers to her using an objectionally foul word.

Mandvi-"Don't you avernites know that she uses you again and again. Aren't you ashamed?"

Rofl, gotta love indie gaming.

I'm just marking yours as the solution.

I'll have to end up just restarting the game and keeping more backup saves for situations where I end up cornering myself like this.
