after i've hit Start game in the main menu, the game just quits.
had no problem in windows 7 before.

i will try compatibility mode, but i thought i'd just let you know.

compatibility mode for windows 7 didn't help either. :(

Found the bug! (just forgot to post)

My windows 8.1 profile has my real name which is Dávid (not David, note the "á" there), the user folder is named accordingly. The game tries to save there and because of the "á", it crashes when i hit Play as it can't create the profile.

I have noticed the game's creator about it 1-2 months ago, he noted it and said it can be fixed. I'm sad to see it's not there yet. :( well, hopefully next update then! As there is no easy workaround for this...
