ghotik2002: The new release of DxWnd seems able to run Entomorph original CD version, though it may require some tricks. I uploaded this v2.05.56 with an included configuration file for the game, maybe it could work better for GOG's release, I haven't tested yet.
In any case, it currently has troubles with movies, better press escape during the initial panels.
I take it DxWnd is your project? Thank you very much for such an amazing program!
Only just started playing Entomorph (GOG), but with using DxWnd it seems to be working great so far with Windows 10. Movies appear to run properly too. Music seems messed up in that it always plays the starting song before it goes to the track it's likely supposed to be playing. I was additionally able to get it run fullscreen-ish without the taskbar
In case anyone else feels like trying to recreate my partial success....
Start by renaming winmm.dll to winmm.dll.old in the GOG\Entomorph Folder.
Download the DxWnd v2_05_58_build, putting it into it's own folder. (In my case I did GOG\Entomorph\DxWnd)
Run DxWnd. Import "Entomorph Plague of the Darkfall.dxw" from the DxWnd\exports folder.
Modify the profile with the following:
[Main]
Path: To the GOG\Entomorph\PLAGUE.EXE
[Video]
"Thin Frame" selected (Got rid of the always appearing Taskbar on my machine)
"Max Resolution" selected
"Initial Resolution" Unselected (May not be necessary to unselect)
Choice time (Or create 2 different profiles):
For stretched fullscreen
[Main]
"Desktop" selected
For proper fullscreen in 4:3
[Main]
"Hide desktop background" selected
"Keep aspect ratio" selected
"Desktop" selected
*There seems to be a 1.1 patch that isn't included in the GOG version, it does fix some issues. Thankfully you can still find it on Google.
**On my current playthrough, I just found another issue which you can use DxWnd to fix. There's a certain location with BEEs that'll destroy you almost instantly. That's because of timing issues (A much weaker CPU is expected). To fix, do a temporary change to your DxWnd profiel. Go to the "Timing" tab and under "Frame per Second" select "Limit" and set "Delay (msec)" to "15" (or a bigger number, if needed). Disable when past the bug.
***For whatever reason, I found that the "Try" option did not work with my machine as it caused all sorts of pop-up errors. However, running the created "Entomorph Plague of the Darkfall" link worked with no issues once configured as above
****If one would like to run the game straight from a shortcut without having to run the DxWnd frontend each time do the following: Go into the DxWnd folder and right click on dxwnd.exe and select "Create shortcut"
Now right click the newly created "dxwnd.exe - Shortcut" and select "properties".
Put quotes around the "Target" (e.g. D:\Games\GOG\Entomorph\DXWND\dxwnd.exe becomes "D:\Games\GOG\Entomorph\DXWND\dxwnd.exe")
Add " /R:1" to the Target (e.g. "D:\Games\GOG\Entomorph\DXWND\dxwnd.exe" /R:1) (Note that "1" can be replaced with a different number if you want to use another sequential created profile from DxWnd Frontend). Apply the settings
Now you can rename the shorcut whatever you'd like, as well as move it to the main Entomorph folder
