So basically when me and my mate try multiplayer we can get to the lobby, but when we start the game and it starts loading, then it crashes for me but not for my mate.
We tried switching wich one hosts, but it still crashed for me.
I tried singleplayer to see if it still crashed, but then it worked perfectly.

Does anyone have any idea about what might cause this?

I have the fix for you. You can install windows 7 in a virtual machine, and install empires: dawn of the modern world in there. The game will work 100% I can guarantee you that and it's not difficult at all.

I personally use VMware but there are other ones (you don't have to buy the software you can crack it, check up on youtube). Install windows 7 (you need to have an iso, just download one from the official microsoft website, it's free), give it at least 2gb of ram, and finally install empires: dawn of the modern world inside.
The game should start up normally, without any errors. Note that you don't have to install the game to play it all is explained here: https://www.gog.com/forum/empires_dawn_of_the_modern_world/release_4_languages_pack_keygen

Well i actually use windows7 and my friend had windows 10(his game doesn't crash), soo i don't actually think windows the problem, or is the solution specifically running it in a vm?
